ABOUT ME

Professional Life

I'm Heather, a licensed professional counselor in Oregon (License #: C8933). I work with adults ages 18 and older, offering telehealth (virtual) sessions across Oregon. I also have experience providing clinical supervision to student interns.

I earned my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon, in 2018. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2010.

I draw on experience in vocational skills training, instructional assistance, and children's mentorship programs.

Personal Life

I grew up in a small town in California and moved to the Pacific Northwest in 2010 after finishing my undergraduate degree in Santa Barbara. I enjoy running after my two young children, adventuring with my husband, backpacking, hiking, camping, and reading fantasy books.

Does it feel like you can't do it all anymore? Maybe you've been trying so hard to hold everything together that you're feeling burned out. Or perhaps you've reached a point where you're not sure how to make things feel more manageable.

If this sounds familiar, you are in the right place.

ABOUT LOAM

Loam is rich, fertile soil that supports growth. That's the kind of environment I work to create in therapy.

I want our work together to feel steady, collaborative, and grounded in what matters to you.

HOW WE DO THERAPY

Like fertile soil, therapy needs the right conditions for growth. I want you to feel welcome, understood, and free from judgment, whatever your story.

You bring the knowledge of your own life; I bring clinical experience and practical support as we find a helpful path forward.

WHAT WE DO IN THERAPY

Our work is evidence-based, skill-based, and collaborative. It includes identifying your goals and building skills that fit your real life.

I tailor this work to your lived experience, values, beliefs, and cultural background.

THERAPY APPROACHES

In addition to the approaches listed below, I draw on evidence-based interventions from motivational interviewing, dialectical behavior therapy, and mindfulness.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a practical, collaborative approach that looks at the relationship between your thoughts, feelings and behaviors. We will explore patterns that may contribute to anxiety, low mood, stress, or other challenges, while developing helpful ways of thinking and responding. CBT is often structured, goal-oriented, with an emphasis on building practical skills that can be applied to everyday life.

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a mindfulness-based approach that helps you make room for difficult thoughts, emotions, and experiences without letting them define or direct your life. Together, we'll explore what matters most to you and develop greater flexibility in how you respond to life's challenges. ACT offers space to meet yourself with more openness and compassion while taking meaningful steps toward the life and relationships you want to build.

  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

Exposure Therapy is a form of CBT and can be a supportive, gradual way to work through fears and anxieties that may be keeping you from living as fully as you'd like. Together, we'll gently move toward situations, sensations, or experiences that have become difficult or frightening, taking things one step at a time and at a pace that feels manageable. Through this process, you'll have the opportunity to build confidence, discover that discomfort can be navigated without avoidance, and develop greater freedom to engage in the people, activities, and experiences that matter most to you.

AREAS OF SUPPORT

These are some of the concerns I commonly support in therapy.

  • Anxiety & Depression

Anxiety and depression can affect your thoughts, energy, relationships, and daily routines. We can explore what you're experiencing and work on effective ways to respond.

This may include severe anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), intrusive thoughts, or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

  • Grief & Loss

Grief can come from death, job loss, identity changes, pet loss, or other painful transitions. It can look different for everyone.

  • Life Transitions

This may include job shifts, having a child, parenting, fostering or adoption, divorce, separation, or other major changes.

  • Relationships

This may include communication, conflict resolution, or navigating change.

  • ADHD

ADHD can affect attention, organization, time management, and emotions. We can build strategies that fit your daily life.

  • Anger Management

This may include emotional regulation, communication, and new ways to behave when anger or distress feel debilitating or overwhelming.

“Anyone who deeply and honestly shares with us the struggles of their heart, their pains and fears, helps us to make us more free. This is so because their story is really, in some way, our story. It is everyone's story.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED

How do I cancel or reschedule my appointment?

You can email or text me directly. Please provide at least 24 hours' notice when canceling or rescheduling. Late cancellations or no-shows will be charged a session fee. This is to ensure I can continue to support all client needs and maintain appropriate care.

Do you ever offer in-person sessions?

I currently offer telehealth (virtual) sessions only.

What do you mean by skills-based therapy?

Skills-based therapy focuses on learning practical ways to respond differently. This may include communication, coping, grounding, or problem-solving skills. For the most part, anything that we are learning to do differently can be called a skill. There is ample evidence to support that skills-based therapy is highly effective and has better treatment outcomes than non-skills-based therapy.

Do you offer superbills?

Yes, I can provide superbills for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Coverage varies by plan, so please check with your insurer directly.
